OULTON PARK CALLS NEXT ROUNDS OF MX-5 SUPER SERIES

So far this season in the Mazda MX-5 Super Series, we’ve seen at least one different race winner every single weekend with different drivers reaching the podium and, more crucially, the top spot. Next up on the 2019 trail is a return to Oulton Park in Cheshire, where a healthy entry is set to populate the paddock.

Last time at Snetterton saw two more names added to the list of winners, with Jeremy Crook finally taking a long awaited first overall MX-5 race victory in the first encounter, before Bradley Kent drove on to take a pair of wins for himself the next day with the latter of the two producing a somewhat dominant performance. Ironically, neither of them are here at Oulton Park this weekend which potentially opens the door for at least one more name to add to the winners’ list, although one or two drivers that have already tasted success are back on the grid.

Those drivers are James Kell and Joe Marshall, who both scored wins all the way back at the opening races at Brands Hatch back in March. Since then, both have had mixed fortunes with Kell suffering retirements at Pembrey while Marshall has scored a handful of podiums before both took another win each at Anglesey. Arguably both will be favourites this time out at Oulton, but as always they’ll be set to face stiff competition. Another winner from Anglesey was Darren Kell, who came out on top after son James and Marshall both came together in the final race. Alex Miller and Simon Fleet have both come agonisingly close on more than one occasion to clinching their first Super Series wins and will hope that Oulton Park treats them right this time.

Two drivers who made welcome returns to the Mazda paddock last time at Snetterton were Simon Orange and Patrick Collins, who wasted no time in reminding everyone how quick they could be. Both drivers stood on the podium at least once over the weekend, and both will hope to do it again in Cheshire with their confidence up as a result. MX-5 Supercup Masters frontrunner Garry Townsend will be looking to maintain some good form carried over from Brands Hatch last weekend and appears on the grid for just the second time in his Super Series career ready to cause an upset or two. Also, never count out Matt Pickford after he took his first pole position at Snetterton and has shown incredible improvement across the season compared to previous years. Clive Powles is also sure to be one to watch as well.

For the rest of the entry, there’s plenty of promise for solid results throughout. Declan Lee has had a turbulent first season luck wise and will just be praying for some good fortune on this occasion, while we’re delighted to see four fast females on the grid with Liz Walton, Jude Worley, Natalie Brookes and Mk1 regular Christina Holley all set to take to the track. Duncan Harris, Chris Lindley and David O’Reilly help to fill out the remaining places on the grid while we also see a welcome return to the paddock for Steve Dolman, a familiar name for some from his exploits in previous years in the SuperCup.
